25 days to Christmas, 30 days to my 22nd birthday, 33 days to noticing my body is not what it used to be and I seriously need to detox, diet and exercise... Yep! The countdown in on people!
Are you as excited as I am about December?
Well, I'm always pretty excited about it, it's my birth month after all, plus, it's literally magical, it brings so much joy and happiness with it. I mean, you have got to love the celebrations, family get together, giving and receiving of presents, endless laughter and chatter, music blasting from homes and vehicles, FOOD GALORE (I just had to)... Oh! And Fireworks!!! I have a thing for fireworks and how it lights up the night.
Enough about December, let's keep this short as intended, here are a few of my favouite things in the month of November.
1. Books & Fruits
If you follow me on Instagram you probably already saw this.
I decided to reread Scarlet Song by Mariama Ba this month, it's an amazing read! Mariama basically highlights the plight that women face in an attempt to find love and build happy families in the book.
The short novel packs in a great deal, I'd recommend it to both ladies and gents, but mostly ladies, there's a high chance that the writers voice will resonate with you profoundly and above all, leave you with a sense of empowerment in the end. Gender, race, chauvinism, cultural identity, tradition vs. modernity, polygamy and post-colonial African identity are some of the issues explored. Mariama writes vividly, the plot moves swiftly... You'll find it hard to put this one down.
By the way, ignore what my brother Barack said on IG when I posted the picture above, he's totally not racist or anything, he just has a peculiar sense of humor haha! Which is great!
I eat lots of fruits when I think I'm growing fat, yeah, I'm weird like that.
2. Evening walks & Sunsets
I enjoy evening walks and the chance of watching the sun go down. I've developed this habit of unconsciously taking random shots with my camera or phone whenever I see a gorgeous sunset.
This was definitely my favourite shot this month, no filter, whoop! Whoop!
3. #HelloChallenge
One of my favourite hashtags on Twitter this month was #HelloChallenge
I had major fun reading guys tweets, so much so, I decided to try it on a couple of my friends. Here are screeshots of my conversation with my buddy Ham and Sharon, made my night!
I'm afraid I'll not be pranking Sharon again any time soon... Girl is smart!
Before giving Ham my contact after he lost like all contacts on his phone, I thought to myself, no worries, I'm gonna give it him, but first... You guessed it! #Hello!
I can't believe he accused me of being high tho... Goodness! Ha!
I loved #ThanksgivingClapBack too. It was hilarious!
4. "Jesus" Sandals
Wore these one-too-many times. Gladiator sandals, are just so cool, fashion forward, timeless... When I was a kid my friends and I used to call them "viatu za yesu"(Jesus' shoes) because that's what we saw actors playing Jesus wearing in Christian documentaries.
5. Floral Burst
They say earth laughs in flowers, this November, earth laughed its ass off alright.
6. Dari Restaurant & Coffee Garden
My awesome brother Eugene and I got to catch up a while back, he was sweet enough to treat me to an equally awesome lunch at Dari. I honestly loved the quiet, serene ambiance of the place and of course the food or should I say cuisine? Unfortunately I couldn't take any pictures, my phone has been having issues lately and can't take any decent photographs... Ain't nobody got time for blurry, wack images.
The restaurant is situated in Karen, off Ngong road, next to the Africa Wildlife Foundation. It's a perfect place to relax and unwind, be one with nature, no kidding, for a minute I forgot I was in crazy Nairobi, effects of the well manicured lawns, fresh air, beautiful plants and flowers I guess.
If you've been to Dari before, I'd love to hear your experience, if you've not been there, I bet you'll not regret trying it out, the restaurant has so much to offer.
